Ignite

Ignite invites you to ask WHAT IF....
What if people were actually excited about church?
What if the church left the building?
What if the church existed for the sake of the world and not just its members?
What if churches started working together
instead of seeing each other as competition?
What if everyone was in 'the ministry'?
What if the church really is the hands and feet of Christ in the world?
What if we stopped just going to church and started BEING the church?
My name is Pastor Dan Bredberg and I would like to invite you to learn more about Ignite Fellowship, a new ministry of Zion Lutheran Church. The mission of Ignite is to invite unchurched/ unconnected people into an authentic community of Christ-followers, ignite their faith, and send them out to light up the world by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through their words and actions. Unlike most churches, Ignite does not meet in a church building because we want to meet people where they are and not make them come to us. Ignite is a unique ministry that is designed to help people walk their talk and live out their faith. This ministry is made to help us BE the church and not just GO to church, by providing a variety of ways we can worship God and fulfill the mission God has given to us. Ignite normally meets at 5pm on Sunday evenings. However, the times and locations of our meetings can change from week to week due to our unique structure. You can find times, dates, locations, descriptions of events and directions by clicking on "ignite" in Zion's event calendar.
Ignite has a five-part structure focused on building relationships, reaching out, and inviting all to participate in ministry. On the first Sunday of the month, we have a worship experience (Excite) and share a meal -which the church provides- at a community location (currently the Waterville fire station). We hold in-home Bible study and prayer meetings (Ignite) on the second Sunday of the month and everyone brings a dish to share for our meal. On the third Sunday of the month, we go out to show Christ’s love through community service projects (Light). The fourth Sunday is for fun and fellowship events (Invite) which are intended to build relationships with fellow Christians and those who don’t know Christ. When there is a fifth Sunday in a month, we will visit other churches to learn from them and to remind us that we are part of the larger body of Christ (Unite).
For those of you who are visual people, here is a diagram of our 5-part structure.

The vision of Ignite is to be a network of mission communities transforming the greater Toledo area through a united “Kingdom” ministry. We are seeking to grow the kingdom of God , not just one church. We are committed to working together with other churches to help the world see an example of Christian unity as we come together to BE the church, the body of Christ.
An initial core group was formed in the summer of 2008 to mark the beginning of Ignite. We hope to add to our core group people from a variety of age groups, churches, and communities with a common heart for outreach and mission. People who are interested in ignite that are connected to a church are welcome to continue worshipping at their current churches, as this ministry will be in the evening and will not ‘compete’ with Sunday morning church services. The core group will focus on building up this new outreach ministry and developing leaders who will be sent out to expand the ministry. We hope that people from a variety of churches can join Ignite so that they can be trained as small group leaders/facilitators and then be sent back to their home churches to form additional mission communities. These mission communities could spread out across the Toledo area, forming a united city church. Once a month, all of the mission communities will come together for large group worship, prayer and fellowship followed by a community meal. Here is another diagram for our visual learners:
“IF” you or someone you know has questions about Ignite or may want to join us, give me a call at 419-878-0266 or send me an email at pastordan@zionwaterville.com.
May the peace, hope and joy of the Lord be with you!
just for fun...sorry if these things annoy you, but I think they are a good way to think about our need to see things differently--especially the limited way we tend to see the church...
